Every morning, a middle-aged man makes his way to a different location in the West Bengal capital of Kolkata to spend time standing on his head in a public square. What begins as an initial ritual becomes a daily practice of stillness: the restless body is brought to a standstill in concentration. The movement of thousands of bodies in public space is juxtaposed with a body at rest and in silence. Against current political tendencies of recent normative repression, a silent practice of self-empowerment is juxtaposed, demonstrating this peacefully in public space with one's own body.
