Interbeing is a performance film grounded in a relational understanding of nature—human constellation, engaging with the notion of psychophysical entanglement. Filmed in the pristine nature of Yakushima, eight individual choreographies of a single human body unfold in eight different locations in dialogue with the specific nature of the surroundings. In the gesture of meditative slowness of decelerated movements and extended phases of seemingly motionless rest, a scenario of stillness and presence emerges and the quality of our inherent interconnectedness with our environment becomes the all-encompassing reality: The main figure in white cotton overalls has a black circle painted over his face, obscuring his features and covering his closed eyes. Any individual physiognomy recedes behind the monochrome surface—a moment of de-differentiation that allows the viewer to perceive the figure blurring into the surrounding environment. The black highlights the quality of the mind as an open space capable of absorbing everything, becoming a metaphor for inner vision and dreaming. Interbeing invites the viewer into a perception released from linear time—one that transcends distanced seeing and suggests a deeper connectedness with the world. The film intuitively evokes the concept that our body and our planet are not contradictory entities, but are instead a living network of relationships: an interplay of the most divergent constellations of coexistence of the most diverse life forms—human and non-human alike. In this interwoven complexity, our body exists in a sensitive intensity that is both space and form.
